Chemicals divisions

Merck develops and produces high-tech chemicals (Performance Materials) and life science tools (Merck Millipore). The Performance Materials division features liquid crystals for LC displays (Merck is a world market leader in liquid crystals); LED materials for lighting; OLED materials for lighting and displays; and functional materials for solar panels. It also manufactures effect pigments along with active ingredients and fillers for the pharmaceutical, chemical and food industries, as well as effect pigments for coatings, print and plastics.

The Merck Millipore division offers technologies, tools, and laboratory chemicals for life science research, as well as for biotech and pharmaceutical production.

The chemical plants in Darmstadt produce liquid crystals, OLED materials, products for the manufacture of solar cells, and cosmetic actives; they also make products for drug development and manufacture, along with reagents and test kits for industry, research and environmental analysis. This site is one of the global research centers for Merck's chemicals division.
