Dr. Bernd Reckmann was born on December 31, 1955 in Bottrop, Germany. He studied biochemistry from 1976 to 1984 at Leibniz University in Hannover and graduated with a doctorate. Afterwards, he worked at the Department of Biochemistry at the University of Bayreuth.
Bernd Reckmann joined the diagnostics research unit of Merck in Darmstadt in 1986. As of 1993, he worked in Marketing & Sales within the laboratory and diagnostics business. He became Head of the Life Science Products division in 1998, then Head of Strategic Innovation in 2004. He assumed the leadership of the Merck businesses in South Korea in 2005.
On January 1, 2007, Bernd Reckmann was appointed Member of the Executive Board of Merck KGaA. In this capacity, he is responsible for the Chemicals business sector.
Bernd Reckmann is married and has two children.
