PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
:
Plan and direct all Benefits policies, objectives, and
initiatives for EMD Serono, Inc., EMD Serono Research Institute,
Inc., and EMD Shared Services America, Inc. Responsible for
overall development and administration of Benefits programs with
Corporate Headquarters and worldwide initiatives and programs.
Directly manage staff of 2-3.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities
· Establish short- and long- range objectives for Company
benefits programs. Develop, recommend and implement overall
Benefits strategy and programs to ensure Company position and
competitiveness.
· Oversee the administration of Company benefits including
Health and Welfare Plans, 401(k), conversion of Plans, Vacation
and Holiday program, Adoption Assistance, Tuition Reimbursement,
and various ad- hoc company benefits including.
· Manage relationships with Plan Trustees, banks, insurance
companies, and other related agencies.
· Recognize and advise Sr. Management of trends and
developments in the field of Company benefits. Provide direction
and counsel regarding current programs, policies and
procedures.
· Conduct and participate in industry wide benefits surveys.
Recommend changes to ensure the maintenance of competitive
programs.
· Manage Benefits processes including yearly audit of Plans,
Open Enrollment Process, and Insurance rate renewal negotiation
process.
· Manage Employee Assistance Program including rate
negotiation, reporting, and promotion of program.
Plan Design: 25%
· Monitors and analyzes experience data (administrative
fees, utilization and trend data) for plans to recommend plan
changes to management.
· Directs the RFP process to include development of
specifications, summaries, experience data and analysis of
responses.
· Reviews industry-wide benefit surveys. Recommends changes
to ensure the maintenance of competitive benefit programs.
· Recommends new and improved benefit practices, policies
and programs.
· Member of the Retirement Plan Investment Committee
Plan Administration: 10%
· Oversees the administration of the EMD Serono benefit
plans and programs defined above
· Oversees the design & administration of monthly and
quarterly benefit reimbursement programs as required (i.e.,
Wellness Reimbursement, Tuition Reimbursement, Executive
Perqs/Care programs, etc.)
· Oversees administration of the Worker's Compensation
program in conjunction with the Health & Safety office
· Oversees the tracking and reconciliation of applicable
benefit costs and other related expenses; creates & maintains
purchase requisitions relative to all benefits costs
· Reviews financial analysis and cost estimates for
appropriate fringe benefits
Project Management: 20%
· Serves as project manager for specified benefit
initiatives.
Consultation: 15%
· Provides direct benefit consultation tot all levels on
matters related to applicable EMD Serono benefit programs,
policies, and processes.
Compliance: 15%
· Oversees all required plan testing acts as liaison for EMD
Serono Pension and 401(k) plans.
· Ensures all benefit plan documents and summaries are
current and available to plan participants.
· Ensures plans and policies are compliant with legislative
requirements
· Ensures all benefits-related procedures, processes, and
programs are effectively administered and comply with all
applicable legislation, including but not limited to: ERISA,
409(a), FMLA, ADA, , HIPAA, COBRA
Vendor Management: 15%
· Responsible for applicable benefits-related vendor
management to ensure quality service & accurate information
by all providers.
· Manages implementation process for new vendors and
programs
· Acts as liaison with plan trustees, actuaries, external
vendors, insurance companies and other related providers.

Corporate HR, Compensation, Benefits & Payroll team,
HRBPs, Finance, Procurement, Management
Externally:
Benefit consultants and vendors including 401(k)
recordkeeper, actuaries, ERISA counsel, Investment Advisor and
other third party administrators
